Worked Until It Died, Difficult Setup - Tom D - Columbus, OH United States
The box is good looking and when this worked, it was quiet and fast. The software isn't intuitive, but it's OK and you really only use it for set-up.

I never succeeded in setting this up with the USB interface. The software couldn't see the drives. Don't know if it was my problem or something with the hardware or software, but after three hours of trying on two different machines it definitely didn't work according to the manual. I wanted a RAID 1 setup. SATA is faster anyway, so I bought and installed an eSATA card () and it worked well immediately and never had any problems after that until...

After 8 months, the box got progressively noisier, fan noise, after two weeks of that it started "whistling" then locked up my computer. Turning it off freed the computer.

Even though it's under warranty and Cavalry will probably replace it, they will make an attempt to transfer, but will not recover any lost data. I can't have confidence in their "data transfer" especially with multiple partiions and I didn't really want to send them the data anyway, so I pulled the drives, transferred the data using a desktop SATA docking station and wiped the drives.

The very good news is that both drives DID have all the data on them and the drives don't appear to have any problems. So the "system" worked...sort of. Nevertheless, it's a pain in the neck to have to do all this data salvage work.

I can't determine if my experience is unusual.

Absent any other data, I'd buy Cavalry again but largely because both drives had all the data uncorrupted. On the other hand, if I had it to do over again I'd buy a box with hot-swappable bays and pay the premium.
